Member of Parliament for Leeds East
Richard Burgon is the Member of Parliament for Leeds East, a constituency he has represented since 2015. Before entering Parliament, he worked as a solicitor specialising in employment and trade union law, advocating for workers’ rights and access to justice. Throughout his parliamentary career, he has been a strong voice on issues including social justice, public services, equality, and community empowerment. Richard has consistently championed investment in education, healthcare, and opportunities for young people, while supporting initiatives that strengthen local communities across Leeds. He regularly engages with charities,
voluntary organisations, schools, and grassroots groups to address the challenges facing families and to promote inclusive policies. Passionate about creating fairer and safer communities, Richard recognises the vital role that parents, educators, public services, and community organisations play in helping children and young people thrive. His commitment to collaboration and social inclusion aligns closely with the values of the Afrikindness Parenting & Inclusion Conference.
