Emmanuel is an NIHR (ARC Humber and Yorkshire) Research Fellow at the Department of Applied Dementia Studies (DADS), University of Bradford. Emmanuel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Mass Communication from Ebonyi State University, Nigeria, in 2005. In 2009, he pursued a Master of Arts degree in Public Relations from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He later obtained a master’s degree in Film Studies at the University of Bradford and a PhD in Media Studies at the same university. His doctoral research examined the impact of new media on social movements, with a particular focus on the radical and agnostic public sphere, alternative communication, ethnic nationalism, and marginalised voices.
Emmanuel is currently working on applied ageing and brain health studies, particularly on dementia prevention and risk reduction in minority ethnic communities, focusing on community engagements, co-creation and risk reduction. Emmanuel’s current research interests include brain health, implementation science, lifestyle changes and health promotion
Before joining the University of Bradford, Emmanuel was a Research Assistant at Southwest Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, where he focused on projects that used GPS technology to improve the independence of individuals with dementia, reducing the burden on their carers. Emmanuel was also part of the Trauma Informed Care Pathway, supporting individuals with trauma and personality difficulties. Emmanuel has five years of experience working as a Healthcare Assistant in mental health hospitals across Bradford and the Southwest Yorkshire Trusts. In 2022, he worked as a Research Fellow (part-time) at Leeds Beckett University, embedded within Wakefield Metropolitan District Council’s public health Department, where he helped design a project exploring Adolescent Vaping in the Wakefield District. Emmanuel has previously worked as a lecturer in Mass Communication at Ebonyi State University, Nigeria, and held various administrative posts. Outside of work, he enjoys playing Squash, Swimming, reading, and using video editing software.
