Community Leader, Advocate, and Volunteer

A dedicated community leader, advocate, and volunteer, Makhame brings a long‑standing commitment to supporting diverse communities and championing inclusion.

Originally from Senegal and based in the United Kingdom since 2003, he has developed extensive experience in community engagement, grassroots leadership, and advocacy across civic and voluntary sectors.

He served for five years as President of the Senegalese Community in Leeds, leading initiatives that strengthened community cohesion, promoted cultural awareness, and expanded support networks for local families.

Currently, Makhame works with Striving for Inclusion, a Community Interest Company (CIC) providing accessible and inclusive services for children, young people, and families. Alongside this, he also volunteers with Leeds Refugee Forum and Citizens Advice, offering guidance and practical support to refugees, migrants, and individuals facing vulnerability, helping them navigate services and access opportunities.

Holding a Diploma in Business Travel and Tourism, he combines strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills with a deep passion for equality and social justice. His work is driven by a commitment to empowering individuals, building stronger communities, and creating positive outcomes for people from all backgrounds.
