Neurodiversity in Faith Communities

Dorcas Iyanuoluwa Fakile is a doctoral researcher at the University of Glasgow whose work explores the intersections of religion, culture, and education. Her PhD investigates cultural and theological myths about autism within Black church communities, examining how social narratives shape perception, identity, belonging, and inclusion.

She brings a rich international background to her scholarship, having taught in the UK, Spain, France, and South Korea, alongside professional experience in youth support, logistics, and administration. Dorcas has also worked as an editor for a church‑based Christian magazine and for memoir and devotional book projects, supporting authors in producing work that is both spiritually grounded and culturally resonant.

At Afrikindness, Dorcas serves as the Neurodiversity Lead for Faith Communities, where she works with faith leaders to develop and deliver training on neurodiversity. Her work supports churches in building neuro‑inclusive practices, co‑creating resources, and strengthening understanding across diverse congregational contexts.
